A T T E N T I O N !!Reports of unscrupulous business practices have been brought up to the San Miguel Fire District. Our Fire District wants to be certain that business owners are aware of unsolicited inspections regarding fire protection systems and areas related to fire safety. Businesses in the San Miguel Fire District have been victimized by citizens claiming to have been sent by the "Fire Marshal" or the "Fire Department" to conduct inspections. San Miguel Fire District does NOT solicit donations by phone, mail or in person, except in two boot drives where we help collect money for the Children's Hospital and the Burn Institute.San Miguel Fire District DOES NOT hire private parties to conduct business inspections. Inspections are conducted by Fire District personnel in uniforms who wear San Miguel badges and carry department identification cards and arrive in a District vehicle. If you have reason to doubt that the inspection being conducted is not a San Miguel Fire District employee, please do not hesitate to call our agency to confirm. A Fire inspector will understand and not have any issues with the business owner making such a call.If there is a fire code violation and corrections need to be made, you will be notified in writing by the Fire District Inspector. Some of these corrections can be made by you; others may require services of private, licensed technical contractors; however, San Miguel Fire District DOES NOT send contractors to your business. If you are approached by a non Fire District employee who tells you they were sent by the "Fire Marshal" or the "Fire Department" to conduct an inspection or if they ask for immediate payment please call the Fire Prevention Division immediately at 619-670-0500 or the San Diego Sheriff Department at 619-337-2000. A description of the persons and/or vehicles involved would be helpful. If you have any questions in regard to this, please do not hesitate to call.Marsha Larsen Fire Marshal San Miguel Fire District

SDG&E Easy Energy-Saving Tips for Businesses
Set thermostat at 78-80 degrees & use ceiling fans to circulate air, turn off or set at 85 degrees when away. Keep windows & doors closed to prevent the loss of heated air. Close blinds, shades or drapes . Turn off computer monitor when you are away from your desk. Adjust power management settings to activate "sleep" mode during periods of inactivity. A laptop computer uses up to 90% less energy than desktop models. Turn off half the overhead lighting while working & turn off all lighting, fax machines, coffee makers, printers, computers and monitors when leaving for the day. Talk to your company about implementing energy-saving technologies for your servers - existing technologies and strategies could cut server energy use by 25%.
For more information on energy-saving rebates or additional ways to save energy this winter, visit www.sdge.com or call Energy Information Center at 1-800-644-6133.
